Individual Therapy

Adults & Adolescents

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

adult and adolescent therapist nyTherapy is a journey of self-discovery and uncovering hidden strengths.

“Who am I?” “Where am I going?” “I’m so stressed out!” Sound familiar? Find yourself trying to manage emotions of anger, anxiety, or depression and need the tools to move forward? Exploring career options looking at strengths, abilities? Or perhaps you’re trying to cope with life transition, loss, or illness? Our work together will increase resilience and self-acceptance.

Therapy can be beneficial whether you are undergoing short-term issues related to stress or crisis, or more significant longer term emotional struggles. Either can interfere with your self-esteem, decision-making, connection with others, or inner peace. Our goal is to help you regain all of these.

Relationships between friends, family or sexual partners as well as connections with workplace colleagues and employers are common themes in my office. “Getting into” or “getting out of” a relationship, making that commitment, trying to engage with others both personally and professionally, learning from past abuse or control, and maintaining self-respect, are all familiar issues.

I utilize research-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic psychotherapy and Gestalt therapy in my practice.

ADOLESCENTS

Typically adolescents are challenging and are not coming to treatment voluntarily. The first step is to develop trust and to assure them that this is a safe environment. They are at an age where they want to make their own decisions. Responsible decisions are all about values which are important with consequences one can live with. Young adults may commence therapy while they try to cope with ADD, school behavioral difficulties, physical limitations, and the temptation of peer pressure while they explore their needs for independence and separation. Changing schools or leaving home for college can be frightening. Often short-term treatment to relieve stress can help to raise confidence and self-esteem.

“People say I seem angry, bitter.” “I don’t have friends. “I can’t focus, parents always forcing me to do homework.”
